Crowns & Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges have been used for decades to restore broken, damaged, or missing teeth. Over the years, dental technology has greatly increased the durability and effectiveness of these dental prosthetics. Aesthetics have also improved significantly, and today’s crowns and bridges are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
At Martik Family Dental, we use updated technology and high-quality materials to create dental restorations that restore function and improve your appearance. We want to help you achieve perfect oral health, and dental restorations allow us to reach this goal by adding stability and preserving your healthy tooth structure.
Whatever your concern, our team of experienced professionals will always take time to listen to your concerns, discuss your options for treatment, and help you make the decision that best suits your needs. In just a few visits, we can easily restore your teeth to full function and make it possible for you to smile with confidence.
Why Dental Crowns?
Dr. Martik may recommend a dental crown if your teeth have been damaged by decay or disease. We need to protect your teeth with a crown to prevent further damage or breakdown of the structure of your tooth.
Dental crowns have many uses. They can:
- Protect a tooth after root canal treatment
- Provide stability for a damaged tooth
- Cover teeth that are severely stained
- Correct cosmetic imperfections like chipped teeth
There are several types of dental crowns, and we offer porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, zirconia, and gold. Which one we use depends on the condition and location of your tooth and your personal preference. After we perform a thorough exam, we can help you decide which material will work best for you.
Why Do I Need a Dental Bridge?
Missing teeth are certainly unattractive, but appearance is not the only problem. Each of your teeth has their own important function, and they must work together to help you chew and speak properly. When a tooth is missing, surrounding teeth are subject to additional stress, making these simple actions difficult and uncomfortable.
A dental bridge is designed to fill the empty space left by a missing tooth. Filling this space with an artificial tooth restores function, allowing you to speak and chew with ease. The bridge also prevents surrounding teeth from drifting, which can lead to misalignment and other problems like teeth grinding, premature wear, and even TMJ.

There are a lot of cosmetic dental flaws, but a filling should not be one of them! If you have an old filling that looks obvious or an amalgam filling that makes your tooth look dark, we have the answer.
Crowns at Martik Family Dental are a common dental restoration. They are primarily thought of for strengthening and protecting a damaged tooth, but crowns can also be used to address flaws like an old discolored filling.
In some cases, we may be able to use a tooth-colored filling, also referred to as a dental composite, to replace an old filling. Since composites are bonded to your tooth, we only need to remove a small bit of tooth structure to accommodate the filling.
However, if you have a very large filling where there isn’t much healthy tooth structure left, it is usually better to leave it be and cover the whole tooth with a dental crown. This covers the old filling with a new protective porcelain shell and provides strength for the tooth that is already compromised.
Dental crowns are versatile because they offer support for a damaged tooth and can be used to address a variety of aesthetic problems. We offer same day CEREC crowns so that you don't have to wear a temporary crown and return for a second visit to deliver your permanent crown! Please contact our Pittsburgh dental office if you’d like more information.
